How did you find out about CVSC?
When CVSC first opened as a Cross-Fit gym, a few of my old White Owl co-worker buddies (the Averetts and Amy Croft) would show up at Angie’s before or after a work-out session. They always seemed full of positive energy, and their transformations were obvious and impressive. A few years later, the Beaver Mountain Ski team started having their racers train with Brad. I would drive my son, a team member, to work out, and I would wait for him in the car where I observed the young athletes run sprints between indoor strength and conditioning activities. I could see they were motivated to push themselves. At that time, I determined that someday, when I got up the nerve, I would join, too.
2. What is your favorite exercise or workout?
Really, I love everything except wall balls. I enjoy the daily mix. Short running sprints during the summer to get outside are always fun. I even like burpees.
3. How long have you been a member at CVSC?
I started in the summer of 2013, but only attended during June, July, and part of August when I was on summer break from teaching. This is my first year going year-round.
4. What do you do for a living?
I retired after an almost twenty-year teaching career (history and English at Mount Logan Middle School and then Logan High School) that followed a few decades in the restaurant industry and a decade of part-time work with the postal service. Now I work taking care of horses and dogs on our farm.
5. What are your hobbies?
Reading (especially history, literature, biography, modern novels, philosophy, and psychology), dogs, horses, long walks, skiing, yard work, writing, Jeeping, mountain biking, boating, travelling, hitting golf balls, cleaning and organizing, eating healthy, working out…
6. What are your goals?
My general goal is to be consistent with healthy daily habits and to overcome my fears (which include flying in small airplanes with my husband). My Cross-Fit goal is to make it three to four days per weeks and be consistent but not obsessive.
7. Why do you train?
I train because I like the way it makes me feel – stronger and more energetic and because training helps me do the things I love to do.
8. Any advice for future members?
Almost every morning I think of excuses to stay home and read my book or clean my house or work out in our basement. So, I remind myself to take one step at a time – get showered and dressed in work-out clothes and leave my options open. And then, when it comes down to it, it’s easy enough to hop in the Jeep (without thinking about how hard I will soon be working out) and just getting there. Getting to the gym is the hardest part, and once I’m there I can ease into the workout, and when I’m all done, I absolutely never regret it – it sets me up to succeed for the rest of the day.
